The Balance of Time

There’s a quote that says, “Time is the only currency you spend without ever knowing the balance. Spend it wisely.” Most of us use time without thinking, forgetting that one day, it runs out. We carefully manage essentials like food, water, and money—but time? Not so much. We can’t guarantee how much time we have left to chase our dreams or finish what we have started. Like this countdown widget, our time ticks away nonstop, hoping it doesn't stop too soon for any of us that we can be together to celebrate our milestone year and enjoy a night full of joy and laughter.

In 2022, the average global life expectancy was 71.95 years. (Fun fact: in 1900, it was just 32!) But remember—it's just an average. Some of us didn’t get to have many years, as you might know.

And yet, we waste time like we have an endless supply of it in our control. We brag about binge-watching shows, scroll endlessly, and then wonder where the day has gone. We often say there’s not enough time in the day to do everything we need to do. Wait... weren't we just scrolling for some countless minutes?

The moment we want to make better use of time, start by spending quality time with the people who matter. Tackle those neglected personal goals. Work on our "Bucket List." Do self-care. Unplug. Devote time to what matters most.

Time doesn’t wait for anyone, and we can’t save it for later. The more mindful we are about how we are spending our time, the more meaningful our moments can truly become.

It is in the way we spend our time that we can get the sense of purpose and meaning in our existence. Each day, treat time like gold—especially in our Golden Years—because it is.

Reflect on how you spend time, because it’s not about how much time we have, but how we use it. The balance of time is always unknown.
